CHARLOTTE – FGCU swimming & diving junior Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) picked up the team’s first conference honor of the 2013-14 season as she was named Costal Collegiate Swimming Associating Swimmer of the Week for the eighth time in her career.
Announced by the league office on Wednesday, the well-deserved honor comes as a result of Svensson’s performance against Florida State in last Friday’s dual meet, where she paced the Eagles with four top-three finishes, highlighted by winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.48.
Svennson also posted a trio of team season-bests with marks of 23.45 in the 50-yard freestyle, 51.00 in the 100-yard freestyle and 1:42.97 as a member of the 200-yard medley relay team.
Beginning just her third season, Svensson has been a tremendous leader for the Green and Blue throughout her career. Holding four individual FGCU program records and one conference record, Svensson was named 2013 CCSA Swimmer of the Year and while competing in last year’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships she received the Elite 89 award.
As a sophomore Svensson garnered three CCSA weekly awards, after leading the conference her freshman year earning four.
Svensson and the Eagles will continue the 2013-14 season as they travel across the country to Los Angles for a quad meet against UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and Oregon State on Friday, Nov. 1, at 3 p.m. EST.
