CHARLOTTE – FGCU swimming & diving freshman Kira Toussaint (Amstelveen, Netherlands/Keizer Karel College) picked up the team’s second conference honor of the 2013-14 season as she was named Costal Collegiate Swimming Associating Swimmer of the Week for the inaugural time of her career.
Announced by the league office on Wednesday, the well-deserved honor comes as a result of Toussaint’s performance at the Georgia Tech Invite last weekend, where she paced the Eagles with three FGCU program-records and two individual first-place finishes.
Against a slew of teams from the SEC and the ACC, Toussaint Won the 200 backstroke (1:56.50) and 100 backstroke (52.65) with FGCU and CCSA records. She placed second setting a program record in the 200 freestyle (1:48.58).
Not only does Toussaint shine individually, but her efforts when combined with those of her teammates continue to yield great results. Leading off in the 400 freestyle relay, Toussaint finished the first leg of the race in a brisk 50.33. En route to their first-place finish, Toussaint anchored the 200 free relay, finishing the race in 22.35.
Being just her first season with the Green and Blue this is Toussaint’s inaugural weekly honor. She joins teammate Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) in the group of this season’s honorees, as Svensson earned the award in October after her performance at Florida State.
Toussaint and the Eagles will continue the 2013-14 season as they host Liberty University on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. EST.
