FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women’s swimming & diving home meets against Liberty (Jan. 4) and Radford (Jan. 14) have been canceled due to emergency renovations needed at the FGCU Aquatics Center. Last month Aquatics Center staff discovered five leaks in the 50-meter pool, which require a complete de-watering to patch.
The Eagles will continue the 2013-14 season as they host FIU on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. EST. Hesitant that the FGCU Aquatics Center pool will be functional, the meet will be held at an off-campus location. Details and more information will be announced closer to the date.
The Green and Blue ended their fall schedule at the Georgia Tech Invite, where they set five program records to take home second place while further proving the program’s ability to shine while competing against high-major programs. The University of Tennessee finished at the top, followed by FGCU in second with Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt rounding out the top four.
Following the success of the Georgia Tech Invite, Kira Toussaint (Amstelveen, Netherlands/Keizer Karel College) picked up the team’s second conference honor of the 2013-14 season as she was named Costal Collegiate Swimming Associating Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 27. Toussaint won the 200 backstroke (1:56.50) and 100 backstroke (52.65) – both FGCU and CCSA records – and placed second, setting a program record in the 200 freestyle (1:48.58).
