FORT MYERS, Fla. – Adding to her list of postseason accolades, freshman Kira Toussaint of the FGCU swimming and diving team, has been named Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Swimmer of the Year, announced by the league office Monday.

Toussaint’s (Amstelveen, Netherlands/Keizer Karel College) naming as the best in the conference is the result of her incredible rookie season where she set eight FGCU program records, four individually and four as a member of a relay, and four CCSA records.

“I’m very excited for Kira and for the program to have won the most prestigious award of the year,” head coach Neal Studd said. “It was a great freshman year for Kira as she helped gain nation recognition for the CCSA which is great for every team in the conference. Seeing a CCSA swimmer race on ESPN is just a great thing for all of us.”

To land a spot on the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America All-American Team, Toussaint placed seventh in the 100-yard backstroke at NCAA Championships, swimming the race race in 51.81 seconds. Becoming the first from the Green and Blue to stand on the awards podium at NCAAs, the freshman elevated FGCU athletics to a new level of competition as she was the university’s first student-athlete to participate in a contest where the winner was crowned NCAA D-I National Champion. The Netherlands’ native continued to find success in the 200 backstroke, finishing the race in 1:53.79 to place 12th in the nation.

Prior to her NCAA performance Toussaint was named Most Outstanding Freshman Performer and Most Outstanding Female Swimmer of the 2014 CCSA Championship Meet after wins in the 200-free, 100-back and the 200-back.
