2009-10 Swimming & Diving Coaches
|YEAR AT FGCU:||1st season|
Pavel Babaev begins his fifth season working as a volunteer assistant with the FGCU swimming and diving team.
Prior to FGCU, Babaev swam collegiately at Florida Atlantic University from 2002-06, where he was coached by current FGCU head coach Neal Studd. While at FAU, he was a member of the elite "sprint one" group. In 2005, Babaev participated in the 200 medley relay that posted a school and Sun Belt Conference record. During his career he also broke the school records in the 50 free, 200 free relay, and 400 medley relay.
After graduating in 2006 with a B.S. in Health Services, Babaev started working as a financial advisor for Cypress Financial Group, which is a part of MetLife.
In summer 2010, coach Studd convinced Babaev to return to swimming. Studd helped him train throughout the summer, leading to Babaev qualifying for the 2009 US Open in Seattle. At the US Open, Babaev performed at a very high level, placing 10th overall in the 50 meter free. Babaev is continuing his training, with his sights now set on the 2012 Olympics.
