Volleyball Team Knocks off Lynn University
FORT MYERS, Fla – Freshman hitter Heather Van Olst (Loxahatchee/Royal Palm) had 12 kills and sophomore setter Laura Manovill 36 assists as Florida Gulf Coast University swept Lynn University 30-24, 30-15, 30-25, on Friday in a South Region volleyball match at Alico Arena.
The Eagles, who are ranked eighth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association/NCAA Division II South Region poll, improved to 14-2 on the year. The Eagles have now won eight of their last nine matches by a three-game sweep.
Lynn fell to 1-10. Junior hitter Theresa Daniels led the Knights with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Van Olst had just three errors in 21 attempts for a .429 attack percentage. Junior middle blocker Devon Watts (Somerville, TX) added eight kills and eight digs for the Eagles. Freshman libero Whitney Hendry (Fort Myers/Bishop Verot) led the defense with 16 digs.
FGCU travels to Miami Shores on Saturday to face Barry University, ranked No. 5 nationally and No.1 in the South Region, at 7 p.m.
