Volleyball Team Falls to No. 5 Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla – Junior hitter Kelly Dantas had 16 kills to lead the fifth-ranked Barry University volleyball team past Florida Gulf Coast University 3-0 Saturday night at the Barry Health & Sports Center. The Buccaneers won the three games 30-14, 30-16, 30-24. The Eagles could shut down one of the nation’s most potent offensive attacks. Junior Kelly Dantas hit a blistering .682 with 16 kills as the Buccaneers improved their record to 14-1. Junior Lori Brooks (Naples) led the Eagles, now 14-3, with seven kills. Sophomore Laura Manovill (Dunedin) posted 21 assists and freshman Heather Van Olst (Loxahatchee) added a match-high 10 digs. The Bucs posted team attack percentages of .531 and .514 to cruise to wins in the first two games. FGCU came out strong in game three to take a 17-12 lead but Barry went on an 18-7 scoring run to post the win. The Eagles continue an eight-match road trip with another top-ranked team as they head to No. 12 Tampa, also ranked third in the South Region, for a match on Wednesday, October 13 at 7 p.m.
