Volleyball's Youngquist Named National Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Florida Gulf Coast University junior Brooke Youngquist, was named the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the week. Youngquist led the Eagles to two big wins this past week, including an upset on the road over #3 Florida Southern. In a three-game win over Nova Southeastern earlier in the week, Youngquist posted a double-double with 16 kills and 14 digs; with only one error, her hitting percentage was an impressive .517 for the match. In the victory over the #3 Moccasins, the highest-ranked team FGCU has ever beaten, Youngquist had a huge match. She became FGCU’s all-time career leader in kills during the match as she posted a career-high of 22. She also contributed 25 digs to the defensive cause. For the week, Youngquist averaged 5.43 kills per game, hitting .344. She added to that, averages of 5.57 digs per game and 5.86 points per game. Youngquist is the first FGCU player to receive the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week honor. The victories propelled the Eagles to their highest ranking, #10 in the CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll.
