Friday, October 17, 2008

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU volleyball team concludes the longest homestand in program history with matches against Belmont and Lipscomb. The two are the only programs to knock off FGCU since the Eagles joined the Atlantic Sun.

The Bruins handed FGCU their only conference loss two weeks ago when they met in Nashville, Tenn. Belmont is currently 13-6 overall and 7-3 in the Atlantic Sun. Belmont dropped their last match at Mercer and faces Stetson before visiting FGCU. The Bruins stifled the Eagles, holding FGCU to a .148 percentage, one of three times in A-Sun play the Eagles have hit under .260 as a team. The Bruins posted 13 blocks in the match, the most against FGCU this season.

The Lady Bisons were the first A-Sun foe to knock off the Eagles with a 3-2 win last season. Following FGCU’s loss to Belmont, the Eagles were able to avenge that loss with a 3-2 win in Allen Arena. The Eagles recaptured first place with the win at Lipscomb in the Atlantic Sun match of the week. Audrey Campbell had one of her best matches while at FGCU with 10 kills and a career-high seven blocks.

During FGCU’s last 11 matches, where the team is 9-2, the Eagles have held every opponent to a hitting percentage of less than .250. FGCU opponents are hitting just .170 and averaging 10.18 kills per game during that stretch.

Both games can be seen live on ASun.TV. Saturday’s game against Belmont begins at 3:00 pm while Sunday’s match up of the top two teams in the league starts at 1:00 pm.
