Volleyball Set to Battle In-State Rival FAU

FORT MYERS, Fla. - After a 10-day break from competition the FGCU volleyball team (2-9) heads to Boca Raton, Fla. on Tuesday night to take on in-state rival FAU at 6:30 p.m.

The Eagles are led by senior middle blocker Jacqueline Cowden (Danville, Calif./Temple/Monte Vista HS) who is first on the team in hitting percentage (.283), kills (70) and blocks (24). Freshman setter Camil Dominguez (Santo Domingo, D.R./Santa Teresita) is fifth in the conference in assists with 9.16 per set.

FGCU fell to the Owls 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 26-24) in their first meeting of the season during the 2010 FGCU Homewood Suites Fort Myers Airport Volleyball Invitational on Aug. 28. Sophomore Lindsey Childs (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./South Plantation HS) and Dominguez led FGCU with a pair of double-doubles. Childs registered 12 kills and 10 digs, both career-highs, while Dominguez picked up 41 assists and 21 digs.

FAU is currently 7-7 on the year and will host the Eagles in their first home match of the season. The Owls are led by senior setter Joanne Marras Tate. Marras Tate leads the team with 439 assists (8.96 per set). FAU’s trio of Christina Wallinger, Kristyna Dzmuranova and Anne Vaughan, all have more than 115 kills and are hitting better than .230.

The Owls hold a 2-0 advantage in the overall series with the Eagles, including a 1-0 record at home.
