Volleyball Heads to Nashville for a Pair of Matches
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast volleyball team will head to Nashville, Tenn. this weekend to take on Atlantic Sun Conference foes Belmont and Lipscomb in a pair of non-conference matches.
With the league approving single round-robin play for regular season matches this year, FGCU’s road matches against Belmont and Lipscomb in September will not count in conference standings. The Eagles (2-10 overall) will face the Bruins (6-10 overall) at 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.) matchup with defending A-Sun Champion Lipscomb (10-5 overall).
FGCU has eight players with between 43 and 73 kills so far this season, led by seniors Jacqueline Cowden (Danville, Calif./Temple/Monte Vista HS), Caitlin Shawver (Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla./Barry/Northeast HS) and Chelsea Lyles (Colorado Springs, Col./Western Nebraska CC/Harrison HS). Junior Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian) leads the team with an impressive 3.90 digs per set. Freshman Camil Dominguez (Santo Domingo, D.R./Santa Teresita), who has been named to a pair of All-Tournament teams this season, runs the FGCU offense, averaging 9.15 assists per set.
