Volleyball Set To Face the Camels in North Carolina
FORT MYERS, Fla. - After splitting a pair of matches in its first week of Atlantic Sun action, the FGCU volleyball squad will head to Buies Creek, N.C. to face Campbell in conference play on Friday night at 7 p.m.
The Eagles enter the matchup with a 4-12 overall record (1-1 A-Sun), while the Camels are 6-12 overall on the season with a 1-1 A-Sun record.
FGCU has eight players between 45 and 99 kills so far this season, led by seniors Jacqueline Cowden (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista HS/Temple) and Chelsea Lyles (Colorado Springs, Col./Harrison HS/Western Nebraska CC), and sophomore Brittany Muse (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS). Junior Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian) leads the team with an impressive 4.09 digs per set, while freshman Camil Dominguez (Santo Domingo, D.R./Santa Teresita), who has been named to a pair of All-Tournament teams this season, runs the FGCU offense, averaging 9.23 assists per set.

SCOUTING THE CAMELS
CU is looking to bounce back after a 3-0 loss at ETSU in its last outing. Campbell has won four of their last six matches after dropping 10 of the first 12 contests, which includes a loss to then-No. 1 Penn State 3-0 (19-25, 9-25, 16-25), to open the season.
The Camels are led by Emily Werner’s 172 kills (2.65 per set). Werner has also racked up 136 digs (2.09 per set) and 197 points on the season. Annie Kobeski leads the team in blocking with 52 total. CU uses a three-headed monster at setter as Heather Wilson, Hope Leatigaga and Paige Tortorello are all averaging more than 4.00 assists per set. On the defensive side, Kelsey Campbell has tallied 207 digs.
FGCU holds a 6-0 lead in the series over the Camels. In the last matchup between the two squads (Nov. 19, 2009) in Fort Myers, Fla., Jelena Simic (Lazarevac, Serbia/ Kolubara Technical School/Seward County CC) racked up a game-high 18 kills, six aces and six digs as the Eagles topped Campbell 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-17) in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Atlantic Sun Volleyball Championship to secure the program’s first Division I postseason win.
