FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball coach Dave Nichols has announced that Brooke Kohler (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter HS/Clemson), formerly of Clemson University, will join the Florida Gulf Coast volleyball program for the 2011 season.

“Brooke will bring size and versatility to our lineup,” said Nichols. “She is a great blocker, has excellent ball control and is a poised and confident competitor. Brooke is capable of helping us at several positions and will add some needed maturity and experience to the lineup. We are expecting Brooke to make significant contributions to the program.”

Kohler, a 6-2 middle blocker/opposite who red-shirted as a freshman and appeared in one match as a RS-freshman, wrapped up her RS-sophomore season with 23 kills, 18 total blocks and seven digs for a Clemson squad that finished 18-13 overall and 9-11 in the ACC.

A graduate of Jupiter HS, Kohler was named Sun Sentinel Player-of-the-Year and was a First-Team Palm Beach Post selection as a senior. She totaled 408 kills, 59 blocks and 255 digs for the Warriors in her senior campaign.

Kohler joins fellow transfer Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Marshall) and incoming freshmen Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS), Whitney Masters (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS), Olivia Mesner (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River HS), Jill Hopper (Muncie, Ind./Wapahani HS) and Liga Strautniece (Riga, Lativa/Rigas Anglu Gimmazija) as newcomers to the Eagle program for the 2011 campaign.
