FORT MYERS, Fla. – After guiding the Eagles to 2-1 record at the Penn State Classic and leading the team to a set one win over No. 5 Penn State last weekend, freshman Jill Hopper (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) earned her first career Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honor, the conference office announced on Monday.
For the week, Hopper, who was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Penn State Classic, had 16 kills in a 3-2 win against Rutgers, 10 kills in a 3-1 win over Long Island and 12 kills in a 3-1 loss to four-time defending national champion Penn State.
The outside hitter, who has earned a spot on the All-Tournament team in three of the four tournaments the team has participated in, leads all A-Sun freshmen with 136 kills, which also ranks her eighth overall in the conference.
The Eagles (5-7 overall) will be back in action this weekend (Sept. 23-24) when they open A-Sun play by hosting Jacksonville on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. and UNF on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
