SCOUTING THE BEARS
Mercer dropped a pair of matches on their road trip to Jacksonville, Fla. last weekend. The Bears come into the match losers of back-to-back contests and also five of their last six matches.
Jennifer Katona leads Mercer with 141 kills, 10 service aces and 49 total blocks. Katona’s 2.35 kills per set rank her 15th in the conference. Aimee Frutchey is second on the squad with 126 kills.
FGCU holds a 4-2 lead in the all-time series over Mercer. The last time these two teams met in Macon, the Green and Blue fell 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 17-25, 25-27) to the Bears. Anna Wagner recorded 18 kills and Chandra Lefever racked up 48 assists and 14 digs in the loss.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
The Owls swept their road trip to Jacksonville, Fla., for the first time in program history last weekend. Alyssa Lang led the way with a pair of double-doubles as the Owls defeated both North Florida and Jacksonville 3-1 last Friday and Saturday.
Lang is on the verge of some personal history. The outside hitter needs just 24 kills to reach the 1,000-kill mark for her career. Lang tallied 553 of those kills at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County before transferring to KSU prior to her junior season. Lang is also on pace to reach 1,000 career digs. The senior needs 63 digs prior to the end of the season in order to reach that mark.
