FORT MYERS, Fla. – After going 3-0 last week, including picking up a pair conference wins over USC Upstate and ETSU, the FGCU volleyball squad will face Belmont and Lipscomb in pivotal matches this weekend.

The Eagles (12-8, 6-1 A-Sun) face the Bruins of Belmont (15-7, 6-1 A-Sun) on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8:15 p.m. and will take on defending Atlantic Sun Champion Lipscomb (14-6, 7-0 A-Sun) on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.

FGCU and Belmont are currently tied for second in the conference at 6-1 and both teams trail Lipscomb, who still holds a spotless conference record at 7-0.

FGCU has four players with 100+ kills so far this season, led by freshman Jill Hopper’s (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) team-leading 242. Hopper, who has been named to three All-Tournament teams this season, ranks ninth in the conference and first among freshmen in kills. Sophomore Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Marshall) and redshirt-senior Jelena Simic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Kolubara Technical/Seward County CC) are second and third on the squad in kills with 185 and 145 kills, respectively. Mesner also ranks sixth in the A-Sun in hitting percentage (.283). Freshman setter Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) has run the FGCU offense, with 634 total assists for an average of 8.93 assists per set.

Both matches this weekend will be featured on A-Sun.TV. Links to video and live stats are available at www.belmontbruins.com and www.lipscombsports.com.

SCOUTING THE BRUINS
The Bruins, who have won nine of their last 10 matches, come into Friday’s contest after defeating Jacksonville 3-1 on Oct. 15.

Belmont is paced by Preseason Player of the Year Maggie Johnson, the conference leader in kills and points. Belmont also boasts the conference leaders in assists (Hannah Miranda), digs (Jamie Lundstrom), and service aces (Jen Myer), while Allison McCoy ranks fourth in hitting percentage. Myer regained her position as the top ranked server in the country (0.87 aces/set) behind her record setting effort against Jacksonville. The sophomore recorded 11 aces in the four set match, setting new NCAA, Belmont, and Atlantic Sun marks. As a team, Belmont leads the Atlantic Sun in service aces and ranks second in the nation in that category.

SCOUTING THE BISONS
The Lady Bisons head into the weekend on a 12-game winning streak and sit atop the Atlantic Sun Conference standings with a perfect 7-0 mark in league play.

Not only does Lipscomb sit atop the league standings but the Bisons also paces the A-Sun in hitting percentage (.241), assists (13.0/set), and kills (14.11/set). Jewell Dobson continues to rank second in hitting percentage with a .352 average just ahead of Katie Rose, who boats a .326 mark. Kaycee Green ranks among the A-Sun leaders in kills averaging 3.61 per set.
