Volleyball Heads to Jacksonville to Battle the Dolphins on Tuesday

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Winners of five consecutive matches, the FGCU volleyball team will hit the road to face Jacksonville in Atlantic Sun Conference action. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
The Eagles, one of two A-Sun teams that are undefeated in conference play, enter the matchup with a 9-7 overall record (5-0 A-Sun), while the Dolphins are 3-14 overall on the season with a 1-3 A-Sun record. The Green and Blue lead the all-time series 7-4 and defeated JU on two occasions in 2011. The Dolphins have not defeated the Eagles since their 3-2 win over FGCU during the 2010 season (Oct. 1; in Jacksonville).
FGCU has six players that have registered between 60 and 130 kills so far this season, led by junior Christine Pinder’s (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS/Houston/Central Florida CC) team-leading 124. Sophomore Whitney Masters (Muncie, Ind./Wapahani HS) leads the team with 175 digs (3.18/set). The setting duo of sophomore Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) and junior Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Juniata College) has run the FGCU offense, averaging 5.55 assists and 4.22 assists per set, respectively.

SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS
JU is looking to rebound from a 3-1 loss (22-25, 24-26, 25-20, 20-25) to UNF last weekend. The Dolphins, who led late in each of the first two sets, got double-digit kills from their freshman tandem of Sammie Strausbaugh (13) and Gabriela Roman (10) in the loss.
In the last meeting between the Eagles and JU in Jacksonville (Nov. 12, 2011), FGCU defeated the Dolphins, 3-2 (25-21. 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 15-12), and were led by Jessica Barnes (16 kills; .565 hitting pct) and Jill Hopper (12 kills, five digs).
