FORT MYERS, Florida --- In its inaugural season, the Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team is jumping into NCAA Division II play. FGCU will play a 26-match schedule that is loaded with some of the best teams in the country.
Head coach Jaye Flood and her young Eagles squad have seven games scheduled against top-10 South Region teams in the 2004 American Volleyball Coaches Association Pre-Season poll.
FGCU will face top ranked Barry University twice, as well as single matches with third-ranked Tampa, fourth-ranked Florida Southern, fifth-ranked Armstrong Atlantic, sixth-ranked Presbyterian and ninth-ranked Florida Tech.
The Eagles will host nine matches at Alico Arena this fall, including Barry and Sunshine State Conference contender Eckerd. The home opener is set for September 15 against Nova Southeastern, which returns four starters from last year’s squad. They will open the season on the road in Winter Park at the Rollins Tournament on August 27.
