Eagles Volleyball Flies Over Flager College

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s volleyball team (16-2) won its seven straight match with a sweep over Flager College (10-20) in Alico Arena. The Eagles won 30-23, 30-15 and 30-14 to post their 10th shutout of the year. Leading the Eagles offense was junior Erika Fonseca (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) who collected 14 kills with a .444 hitting percentage. Fonseca also served one ace and had five total blocks. Sophomore Brooke Youngquist (Ft. Myers, FL) was second on the team in kills with 10. She also collected 16 digs which gives her 11 double-doubles on the season. Freshman setter Ciara Sandoval (Fort Myers, FL) and junior setter Laura Manovill (Dunedin, FL) led a 6-2 offense. Sandoval posted 26 assists with nine digs while Manovill collected 24 assists. Sophomore libero Whitney Hendry (Fort Myers, FL) led the defense with 15 digs. The Eagles shot .365 overall as a team and collected five service aces. They had 56 kills to Flagler’s 23 and had a total of 12 blocks as a team. The Eagles take on Nova Southeastern in Davie, FL this Wednesday October 12 at 7:00 pm.
