FGCU Volleyball Ranked Second in South Region
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University remained No. 2 in the latest NCAA Division II South Region volleyball poll announced this afternoon by NCAA officials.
FGCU is now with Florida Southern for the second spot. The Eagles are currently 22-2 on the season, including an 11-1 record against South Region competition. FGCU is currently riding a record 13-match winning streak.
The top four teams remain unchanged from a week ago. Tampa (19-2) remains first while Barry (11-8) is fourth. Rollins (18-8) moved up four spots to fifth.
The NCAA will select eight teams from each of the eight geographic regions to participate in the regional championships, to be held November 18-21 on campus sites to be determined. In the South Region, champions of the Peach Belt, Sunshine State and South Atlantic conferences receive automatic bids. Five at-large teams are chosen to fill the eight-team field. FGCU is competing for one of the five at-large bids.
The Eagles match against Barry, scheduled for Friday night in Alico Arena, has been postponed due to the campus closing due to the threat of Hurricane Wilma to the Southwest Florida coast.
