FORT MYERS, Fla. - The 10th ranked Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team learned its postseason fate today. The 27-2 Eagles will make their postseason appearance in Tampa's Bob Martinez Sports Center for the second consecutive season.
This year, the Eagles are the only undefeated team in South Region play and earned the #2 seed. The Eagles will face South Carolina-Aiken (28-6), the region's #7 seed. FGCU brings the nation's second longest winning streak, 25 straight, into the South Region tournament. FGCU will take on USC-Aiken on Thursday.
This will be the 2nd meeting between FGCU and South Carolina-Aiken. The Eagles won the earlier meeting this season 3-1 in Aiken.
Should the Eagles win, they would face the winner of the Florida Southern vs. Lynn match-up setting up a potential rematch of last years South Region semifinals that saw FGCU take a 3-2 win to reach the region finals over Florida Southern.
Tampa (29-1), the host, also received the top seed in the region and will face Wingate (22-7) in their first match. Barry (15-13) will face Eckerd (21-13) in the other region quarterfinal.
