FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team was slotted 16th in the CSTV/AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. Defending champion Grand Valley State was selected as the top team in the country. The Eagles are coming off of a 27-4 campaign which saw FGCU advance to the NCAA Regional finals. Head Coach Jaye Flood, entering her third season at the helm at FGCU, welcomes back five players from last season’s squad including three starters as well as libero Whitney Hendry. Seven talented newcomers also join the mix for the Eagles this season. FGCU’s 2006 slate features several of the top teams in the country this season. They come into the weekend fourth and fifth respectively. The Eagles also travel to number 11 Florida Southern on October 6. Northern Kentucky, who FGCU plays in the opener, is one of three additional schools receiving votes in the preseason poll.
