Volleyball Sweeps Competition in AASU Classic

SAVANNAH, GA – The No. 19 Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles improved to 9-2 after going 4-0 in this weekend's AASU Classic. FGCU defeated Wingate in the nightcap 3-0 (30-20, 30-27, 30-18) for their seventh straight victory this season. Sophomore Cara Ziegler (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the Eagles with 11 kills and she also had three assisted blocks. Patricia Gomes da Silva, a junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, also recorded double-digit kills with 10. Sophomore setter Chandra Ginest (Fort Morgan, Colorado), had 37 assists against Wingate, giving her 146 in the two-day classic. Junior libero Whitney Hendry (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the Eagles in digs with 15. The Eagles will travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Tuesday to take on Nova Southeastern University. FGCU will be back in action at Alico Arena on Friday for a 7:00 pm match with Palm Beach Atlantic.
