FORT MYERS, Fla. – The 18th ranked Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team looks to extend an eight match winning streak when they host Palm Beach Atlantic September 15, 2006 on Friday night at Alico Arena. FGCU has won eight straight matches with seven of those have come in a 3-0 fashion. The Eagles are facing a Palm Beach Atlantic squad that is currently 5-6. The Sailfish have a match on Thursday prior to traveling to Alico Arena on Friday. This will mark the fourth meeting between the two, with FGCU winning the previous three contests. FGCU took the last meeting 3-0 on October 4, 2005. This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the two schools this year. “Right now, we are playing pretty well,” said head coach Jaye Flood. “Ursula Vieira is a very good player for them. Alico Arena is a tough place to play, we are 18-1 all time and have only lost seven games here.” Over the last five matches, Cara Ziegler is hitting .446. Ziegler, a sophomore from Fort Myers, Fla., has 40 kills while committing just three hitting errors. For the year, she is hitting a team best .409 and averaging 2.51 kills per game. She also has 36 blocks, the second top total on the team. Ziegler has started all 12 matches and has committed just 15 hitting errors this season. The Eagles will continue their homestand on Tuesday when they host Florida Tech at 7:00 pm in Alico Arena.
