Volleyball Finishes Road Trip at Florida Tech
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The 10th ranked Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team travels to Melbourne, Fla., to face Florida Tech on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
The match pits two teams heading in the opposite direction. The Eagles are 22-2 on the season and have won 20 straight matches. Florida Tech is 2-23 and has lost 19 straight matches. The Eagles handed FIT one of their earlier losses, a 3-0 (30-10, 30-15, 30-15) decision on September 19.
FGCU has four starters hitting over .270, including Cara Zigler, who is hitting a team best .407. Ericka Fonseca (.340) and Patricia Gomes da Silva (.323) both hit over .300. Brooke Youngquist, who leads the team in kills per game at 4.07 is hitting .272 for the Eagles. As a team, FGCU boast one of the top team hitting percentages in the country. The Eagles currently hit .291 as a team. Chandra Ginest paces the attack, averaging 13.44 assists per game.
Jenny McCoy leads the Panthers with 170 kills. In the first meeting of the season, Megan Konopnicki and Lindsay Foster led FIT with five kills apiece. Melissa Reinders led the defensive effort with a match high 19 digs.
The match will be broadcast live on the internet by Florida Tech. The Eagles return from a seven match road trip on Saturday to face Saint Xavier at 7:00 pm in Alico Arena.
