Greeley, Col. – The FGCU volleyball team scored their second blowout in a row. The Eagles improved to 2-1 with a 3-0 (30-14, 30-15, 30-22) sweep of St. Francis (PA) on Friday night.
The Eagles dominated the Red Flash, hitting .464 while limiting St. Francis to .170 and just 31 kills. In game one, the Eagles were efficient, hitting .435 while hammering home 12 kills. The Eagles jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never trailed in game one. A huge 6-0 run with the score 13-8 FGCU broke the first game open as FGCU cruised to a 30-14 win.
Game two was more of the same as the Eagles raced to a 6-2 lead. Up 8-6, FGCU then went on a 7-0 run to take a 15-6 lead. A few small runs gave the Eagles a 30-15 game two win. The Eagles hit .538 and finished with 16 kills while holding St. Francis to 10 kills. T
he Eagles slowly pulled away in the second game, taking a 21-16 lead and holding on for a 30-22 win. The Eagles were again efficient, hitting .429 while hammering home 19 kills in the game.
Brooke Youngquist (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the Eagles with 12 kills, and hit .526 in the match and a team high seven digs. Roberta Santos added seven kills and 11 assists with four aces. Five Eagles hit over .500 in the match.
FGCU will be in action again tomorrow when they face UC-Riverside and Northern Colorado on the final day of the tournament.
