Volleyball Hits the Road in Conference Action

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU volleyball team puts their 13-match winning streak on the line against league favorite Belmont on Friday night.

The Eagles and Bruins are the last two unbeaten teams in league play. Both teams come in with impressive streaks. The Eagles have won 13 straight matches and 28 consecutive games while Belmont has won 11 of their last 12 A-Sun matches and are 30-8 in A-Sun matches since 2004. This is the A-Sun match of the week, the second time since league play began that the Eagles have been involved in the league’s featured match. Neither team has dropped a game in conference play this season.

FGCU has five players ranked in the league’s top-10 in hitting percentage including league leader Cara Ziegler. As a team, the Eagles lead the league in hitting percentage, opponents hitting percentage, kills, assists and aces.

Belmont is led by pre-season league player of the year Colleen Nilson. Nilson, a senior setter leads the league in assists while Cat Mundy leads the conference in kills at 4.87 per game. The Bruins come into Friday’s match with a 13-5 mark and 3-0 in league play.

While in Nashville, the Eagles will also face Lipscomb on Sunday, October 7th at 2:00 pm. Sara Snider leads the Lady Bisons, averaging 4.76 kills per game while freshman setter Stefine Pease is second in assists, averaging 11.63 per game. Lipscomb comes in to the weekend with a 7-9 overall mark and 1-2 A-Sun record. They will host Stetson on Friday night.
