KENNESAW, Ga., - The FGCU volleyball team earned the 100th win in program history with a 3-0 (30-15, 30-12, 30-16) sweep of Kennesaw State in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday night. The Eagles improve to 20-2 overall and 8-1 in the A-Sun while Kennesaw State falls to 4-21, 2-6 A-Sun.
FGCU led throughout game one and built a 20-12 lead. FGCU used a pair of small 4-0 runs to take the lead. Ana Kokanovic (Lazarevac, Serbia) served six straight points to close game one 30-15. Kokanovic picked up three aces during the run.
In the second game, the Eagles quickly jumped out to a 5-1 lead. Following a pair of side-outs, FGCU went on a 4-0 run to take an 11-4 lead. FGCU built a lead of 17-8 and followed with a 7-0 run to put game two out of reach. FGCU would end up with a 30-12 win in the second game.
Kennesaw State would go up 2-0, their only lead of the match, in the third game. FGCU responded with a 5-1 run to regain the lead. The Eagles would slowly pull away and close the game with a 6-0 run to end the match in three games.
Sabrita Gulley led the Owls with eight kills on the match. Jenny Black and Lindsey Plotner each picked up seven digs in the match.
Roberta Santos (Recife, Brazil) and Brooke Youngquist (Fort Myers, Fla.) each picked up nine kills in the match. Santos hit .300 and added 16 assists, seven digs, three aces and three blocks. Youngquist collected eight digs while hitting .333. Kokanovic hit .636 in the match and finished with eight kills and three aces.
The Eagles will be in action tomorrow when they take on Mercer at 3:00 pm in Macon, Ga.
