Volleyball Wins 7th Straight Match

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., - The FGCU volleyball team swept the University of North Florida 3-0 (30-23, 30-18, 30-23) for their 22nd win of the season. Despite being A-Sun rivals, the match was not a conference match. UNF falls to 4-23 on the season.

FGCU took an early 2-0 lead, and UNF followed with four straight of their own. The two teams exchanged points until the score was even at 12. FGCU went on a 4-1 run of their own to take a 16-13 lead in the opening game. A 5-0 run behind a pair of aces from Ana Kokanovic helped the Eagles open a 26-17 lead. The Eagles would hang on for a 30-23 win in the opener.

The Eagles opened up an early 3-1 lead and never looked back in game two. A pair of 5-0 runs and a 4-0 run helped FGCU cruise to a 30-18 win in game two.

The Eagles took an early led and went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-3 lead. FGCU was able to up their lead to 23-15 before UNF scored five of the next six to cut FGCU’s lead to 24-20. The Eagles were able to hold off the Ospreys and take the third game 30-23 for the 3-0 sweep.

Maegan Weisert led all players with a game-high 16 kills in the match. Clair Yountas added seven kills for the Ospreys.

Brooke Youngquist paced the Eagles with 12 kills while hitting .393 and picking up 14 digs. Ana Kokanovic hit .500 with 10 kills and seven digs. Roberta Santos picked up nine kills, 21 assists, five digs and three blocks.

The Eagles will face Jacksonville tomorrow afternoon in their final A-Sun match of the season. The Eagles have already clinched a share of the A-Sun Championship and can win the title out-right in their first year with a win over the Dolphins. The Eagles and Dolphins square off at 5:00 pm.
