LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The FGCU volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-19) to Utah on Saturday in their final game of the NMSU Tournament. The Eagles fall to 1-5 while Utah improves to 3-1 with the win.
Both teams found play sloppy early in game one. Utah was able to pull away slowly but had to hand on for a 25-21 win in game one. Neither team reached double figures in kills in the game and both hit under .050 in the first game.
The Utes seized control early with a 6-0 run and cruised to a 25-13 win in the second game. In game three, FGCU fell behind early and trimmed a Utah lead to 22-19, but were unable to come any closer as Utah held on for a 25-19 win in game three.
Utah picked up 12 blocks in the match, six apiece by Kathryn Haynie and Emillie Toone.
Roberta Santos just missed a triple double with a team high nine kills, 19 assists and 12 digs. She also added a pair of blocks and an ace in the match. Catilin Shawver added eight kills for FGCU.
The Eagles are back in action against Stetson on Tuesday in their Atlantic Sun and home opener at 7:00 pm in Alico Arena.
