FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU volleyball team is looking for a second consecutive win in the Atlantic Sun on Saturday afternoon against Campbell at 3:00 pm in Alico Arena.
The Eagles have been dominant in their home facility since fielding a program in 2004. The Eagles have won 26 consecutive matches and own a 34-1 all-time record in the facility. The Eagles were handed their only loss in Alico Arena in 2004 to Barry, who was coached by current FGCU Head Coach Dave Nichols. In individual games, FGCU is 103-9 all-time in Alico. No current player has ever lost at Alico Arena.
FGCU quickly dispatched Stetson in the 2008 home opener, cruising to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-18) as they hit .350 as a team and served up 10 aces in the match. Ana Kokanovic led the Eagles with 13 kills while Audrey Campbell hit .667 in the match.
Campbell is currently 1-7 on the year with a match at Stetson on Friday before facing the Eagles. Both teams competed in the Hilton RTP/North Carolina Central Tournament. They did not face each other in the event, but have a common opponent. FGCU handed Elon their first loss of the season in the RTP/NCCU Tournament while Campbell fell to the Phoenix 3-0 in Elon’s tournament.
The Eagles and Camels have met only once before with FGCU winning 3-0 (30-19, 30-19, 30-19) in Alico Arena. FGCU limited the Camels to a .058 percentage while hitting .297 and serving up 10 aces. Ana Kokanovic hit .429 and had six aces of her own in the match.
The Eagles will not be back in action again until Friday when they travel Macon, Ga., to face Mercer at 7:00 pm.
