FORT MYERS, Fla., - FGCU takes on a pair of the top teams in the Atlantic Sun when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., this weekend to face Belmont and Lipscomb. Belmont is currently 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the league while Lipscomb has an 8-6 overall record and perfect 6-0 mark in league play.
The three teams were selected to finish 1-2-3 in the Coaches Preseason Poll, while Belmont and Lipscomb split the vote for the tournament champion. The three teams combine for five of the seven Preseason All-Conference selections.
Belmont is led by Preseason Player of the Year Cat Mundy. She is currently 5th in the league in kills per game at 3.17 while Emily Cahill is leading the league in hitting percentage at .379. Freshman setter Channing Salava is second in the league in assists at 9.48 per game. As a team, Belmont is second in the league in hitting percentage at .261 in conference games.
The Bisons are the only team to hand FGCU a loss since joining the Atlantic Sun with a 3-2 win in Nashville last season. They went on to win the tournament championship and advance to the NCAA tournament. This year, the Bisons bring in a 6-0 mark in the A-Sun and are currently on a seven-match winning streak with a home match against Stetson before facing the Eagles. The Bisons are 2nd in the league in kills per game at 12.51 per set.
The Eagles have been dominant in A-Sun matches this season, hitting .316 as a team and limiting opponents to a .146. Four Eagles are in the top-10 in the A-Sun in hitting percentage. FGCU is currently on a six match winning streak, all in the Atlantic Sun.
FGCU at Lipscomb has been selected as the A-Sun Match of the Week, FGCU's second time this season. Earlier this year, FGCU took on Utah in the A-Sun Match of the Week.
