FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU volleyball team returns home to kick off a four match home stand in their second consecutive A-Sun Match of the Week on Friday night. The Eagles face Jacksonville (10-5, 6-2 A-Sun) on Friday night and follow with a match against UNF (7-7, 5-3).
The Eagles return home to Alico Arena where they put a 29-match winning streak on the line. The Eagles are 37-1, with 30 3-0 sweeps in Alico. FGCU is currently tied atop the A-Sun standings with a 7-1 league record. The Lipscomb Bisons have an identical record in league play with a loss to the Eagles last week.
The Eagles and Dolphins will meet for the fourth time, with FGCU taking all three previous matchups. Jacksonville boasts a pair of preseason All-Conference selections in libero Shelley Walroth and outside hitter Sara Bendorf. Walroth leads the A-Sun in digs and ranks sixth nationally at 6.13 per game while Bendorf leads the conference with 3.85 kills per game.
Since forming the program, FGCU is 21-4 all-time against Atlantic Sun foes. UNF is responsible for half of the losses, but FGCU holds a 3-2 advantage in the series including the last three. The Ospreys have already exceeded the win total from the 2007 campaign. Agata Dawidowicz leads the country in aces at 0.93 per set while Kaley Read is third in the A-Sun in kills at 3.49 per set.
The Eagles continue their season-long four match homestand next weekend, hosting Belmont and Lipscomb.
