FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU volleyball team continued to steamroll opponents in Alico with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-14) sweep of UNF on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 10-6 overall and 9-1 in the Atlantic Sun while the Ospreys fall to 8-8 and 6-4. FGCU won its 31st straight match at Alico and picked up their 31st sweep in 40 home matches.
The Eagles were dominant in game one, allowing the Ospreys consecutive points on one occasion in the first set. The Eagles hit .654 in the set, with 18 kills and just one attack error in the set.
In the second set, the Eagles again jumped out to an early 5-2 lead only to see UNF answer with a 4-1 run to put the Ospreys up 6-5. A 4-0 run from FGCU that included a pair of kills from Catilin Shawver put the Eagles back on top. UNF would regain the lead at 20-19, but a 6-1 FGCU run gave FGCU a 25-21 win in the second set.
With the third set evened up at nine apiece, Ana Kokanovic served up five aces in an 8-0 Eagle run. After a side-out, a 4-0 FGCU run gave the hosts a 21-10 lead. The Eagles would coast to a 25-14 win in the final set.
FGCU held the Ospreys to just 19 kills in the match and a .119 percentage as a team. Agata Dawidowicz and Danielle Lerce picked up five kills apiece. Lizzy Manno added 13 digs for UNF.
Ana Kokanovic had a tremendous match with 16 kills, seven aces and nine digs while hitting .448 in the match. Ashley Yance and Roberta Santos each tacked on nine kills as FGCU hit .370 as a team in the match.
FGCU will return to action next Saturday when the Eagles host Belmont at 3:00 pm in Alico Arena. The Bruins handed FGCU their only conference loss in Nashville, Tenn., last weekend.
