Volleyball Looks to Extend Six Match Winning Streak

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU volleyball team looks to extend its season-long six match winning streak over the weekend with matches at ETSU and USC Upstate.

This will be the third time that FGCU has faced each opponent. Both meetings were in Alico Arena last year and earlier this season. FGCU swept USC Upstate twice and twice beat ETSU 3-1. FGCU hit a team-high .451 against USC Upstate in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) sweep of the Spartans. In FGCU’s 3-1 (25-9, 23-25, 26-24, 25-22) win over ETSU, Ana Kokanovic had 13 kills while Roberta Santo added seven kills and six aces.

ETSU is currently 7-13 and 4-8 in the Atlantic Sun. They have lost three straight matches in the process. Lauren Baufield leads the team with 151 kills as the Bucs are hitting .130 as a team. Jen Neice leads the team on the defensive end with 302 digs.

The Spartans are 7-14 overall and 3-9 in the league. Sandra Campbell leads the team 2ith 218 kills and ranks 8th in the league in hitting percentage at .291. She also leads the squad with 42 blocks.

In addition to the six straight, FGCU has won 12 of its last 13 matches. In conference matches, the Eagles lead the league in hitting percentage and aces. Three of the top hitters in conference matches are Eagles.

FGCU’s Friday night match at ETSU will be at 7:00 pm while Saturday’s is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
