FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU volleyball team won their ninth straight match to improve to 16-6 overall and 14-1 in the Atlantic Sun with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-12) of Kennesaw State. The Owls fell to 5-19 and 4-11 in the A-Sun.
The Eagles scored early and often in the first set. The Owls recorded consecutive points only once during the set, as FGCU went on 4-0 runs four separate times, cruising to a 25-9 win. The Owls scored five of their nine on FGCU service errors in the set, as they hit (.-208) in the set.
The Eagles went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-5 lead early and continued to build on that lead. The Eagles would go on two more 4-0 runs as they won the second set 25-17.
FGCU went on a 7-1 run to open the third set. Midway through the set, the Eagles went on a second 7-1 run to take an 18-8 lead as they coasted to a 25-12 win in the third set.
Sabritha Gulley picked up seven kills for the visiting Owls and Selina O’Leary added 12 digs. FGCU limited the Owls to a (.-034) percentage, the second time this season that they have held KSU to a negative percentage.
Ana Kokanovic hit .406 with 13 kills. Roberta Santos added five kills and hit .626 while dishing out 23 assists and picking up three aces. The Eagles hit .330, the eighth consecutive time that they have hit over .275 in a match.
The Eagles will face Mercer tomorrow at 3:00 pm in the Atlantic Sun Match of the Week.
