Eagles to Face Nationally Ranked Opponents in the Trojan Invite

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU Volleyball team (1-2) will participate in the Holiday Inn LA City Center Trojan Invitational in California, Thursday-Saturday (Sept. 3-5), with USC, Pepperdine, and Northern Arizona being the other participants. The Eagles will face No. 16 USC on Thursday (Sept. 3) at 10 p.m. and Northern Arizona (1-2) on Friday (Sept. 4) at 7:30 p.m. in the Galen Center. The finale will be No. 21 Pepperdine hosting the Blue and Green on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Malibu, Calif.

FGCU’s two matches at the Galen Center will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com (there is a $14.95 monthly subscription fee in order to watch the webcasts), while the Eagles match at Pepperdine will be available to Wave Casts subscribers at pepperdinesports.com. Live statistics will be available for all of the matches free of charge.

No. 16 USC Notes
USC is 2-1 on the season after falling to Michigan State and defeating UNC and Albany at the Michigan State Tournament in East Lansing, Mich. last weekend. USC is 37-3 all-time at the Galen Center. Head coach Mick Haley is 204-44 in his ninth season at USC. Alex Jupiter leads the Trojans with 42 kills (3.82 kps), 25 digs (2.27 dps) and 52.0 points. This is the first-ever meeting in women's volleyball between FGCU and USC.

Northern Arizona Notes
Northern Arizona is 1-2 on the season after defeating Boise State and losing to Cal State Northridge and Tulsa last weekend in Boise, Idaho. Head coach Craig Choate is 16-12 in his second season at NAU. Freshman outside hitter Lauren Campbell has 34 kills (2.83 kps) and 37 digs (3.08 dps) this season. This is the first-ever meeting in women's volleyball between FGCU and Northern Arizona.

No. 21 Pepperdine Notes
Pepperdine is 3-0 on the season after sweeping the Colorado State Asics Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., last weekend with wins over then-No. 24 Colorado State, Cal Poly and Oregon State. Head coach Nina Matthies is 497-294 in her 27th season at Pepperdine. Senior outside hitter Rachel Grochmal leads the Waves with 32 kills (3.20 kps), 29 digs (2.90 dps) and 37.0 points. This is the first-ever meeting in women's volleyball between FGCU and Pepperdine.
