Volleyball Swept by Lipscomb on the Road

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The FGCU volleyball team dropped its third consecutive match after falling to the Bisons of Lipscomb 25-17, 25-16, and 25-21 Friday evening in Allen Arena.

Lipscomb came out of the gate with a strong offensive attack and never let up. In the first set Lipscomb had 15 kills against three errors, while FGCU had 11 kills on eight errors. In set number two the Eagles had 10 kills on five errors and were outhit .560 to .172.

The Bisons had three players recording double-digit digs, while the Eagles two players accomplish that feat. Juniors Jelena Simic (Lazarevac, Seriba) and Emma Racila (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the Blue and green with 10 kills each. Simic added seven digs to go along with her 10 kills.

Chandra Lefever was credited with 24 assists and one kill to go along with her four digs. FGCU used a 6-2 run to make the score 23-21 in the third set, but Lipscomb setter Jake Pease notched kills on back-to-back dumps over the net to give Bisons the match win.

Sophomore libero Holly Youngquist recorded 15 digs in the loss.

The Eagles return to action Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. EST as they face off with the Belmont Bruins at the Curb Event Center.

Florida Gulf Coast drops to 11-10 overall and 10-4 in the A-Sun, while Lipscomb improves to 19-3 overall and 14-0 in conference action.
