FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU volleyball team continues postseason play tonight (Nov. 20), against Jacksonville in an A-Sun Tournament Semifinal. The No. 3 seed Eagles (17-12, 15-5 A-Sun) will battle the No. 2 seed Dolphins (19-8, 15-5 A-Sun) at 7:30 p.m., in Alico Arena.
FGCU and Jacksonville are meeting for just the eighth time overall and for the first time in A-Sun Tournament action. FGCU leads the all-time series 4-3, with the Blue and Green falling to the Dolphins in both meetings this season. In the meeting at Jacksonville, held on Sept. 25, the Dolphins jumped out to a two-set advantage only to see the Eagles win sets three and four. Jacksonville recovered in the fifth set to pull out a 15-8 win in the deciding set. On Oct. 17 in Alico Arena, it was the Eagles who won the first two sets but the Dolphins turned in around starting in the third set, winning 25-11. A fourth-set win set up another tie-breaking set. Jacksonville completed the comeback by claiming the final stanza, 15-9.
Defending champion No. 4 Belmont (18-14, 13-7 A-Sun) will face No. 1 Lipscomb (26-3, 20-0 A-Sun) in the first semifinal match at 5:00 pm.
The championship match is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship tournament.
