FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast volleyball team will head to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend to open Atlantic Sun Conference play with matches at Jacksonville and UNF.
The Eagles (3-11 overall) will face the Dolphins (8-8 overall) at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by a Saturday afternoon (3 p.m.) matchup with the Ospreys (2-12 overall).
FGCU has eight players between 45 and 89 kills so far this season, led by seniors Jacqueline Cowden (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista HS/Temple), Chelsea Lyles (Colorado Springs, Col./Harrison HS/Western Nebraska CC), and Caitlin Shawver (Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla./Northeast HS/Barry). Junior Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian) leads the team with an impressive 3.88 digs per set, while freshman Camil Dominguez (Santo Domingo, D.R./Santa Teresita), who has been named to a pair of All-Tournament teams this season, runs the FGCU offense, averaging 8.94 assists per set.

SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS
With a 3-0 win over Stetson, JU has won its last three matches in straight sets and have reached the .500 mark for the first time this season. The Dolphins have picked up notable wins over UCF and FAU so far during the 2010 campaign.
Kathryn Kane leads JU with 143 kills. Aidan Yeager is second on the squad with 134 kills, 20 service aces and 48 total blocks, while Brittany Lehman has recorded 95 kills and 15 total blocks. Kendall Courtney runs the Jacksonville offense having recorded 545 assists this season.
FGCU holds a 5-3 lead in the series over the Dolphins. Last season in Jacksonville, Jelena Simic (Lazarevac, Serbia/ Kolubara Technical School/Seward County CC) racked up a game-high 25 kills and hit .300 as the Eagles to fell JU 3-2 (25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 15-8) at Swisher Gymnasium.
SCOUTING THE OSPREYS
UNF is looking to bounce back after a 3-1 loss to Florida A&M in its last outing. North Florida has dropped six consecutive matches and has also lost nine of their last 11.
Heading into their Friday matchup with Stetson, the Ospreys are led by Paige Pridgeon’s 199 kills (3.83 per set). Pridgeon has also racked up 130 digs (2.5 per set) and 217 points on the season. Dagnija Medina leads the team in blocking with 39 total. Freshman setter Britt Claessens is averaging 8.38 assists per set. On the defensive side, Nicole Baran has tallied 195 digs.
FGCU holds a 7-2 lead in the series over the Ospreys. Last season in Jacksonville, the Eagles earned a come-from-behind victory as they topped North Florida 3-2 (22-25, 19-25, 34-32, 26-24, 15-12). Simic and Cowden each had 20 kills for FGCU.
