FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU volleyball libero/outside hitter Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian) added to her solid junior campaign on Thursday afternoon when she was named to the ESPN Academic All-District 3 second team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A resort and hospitality management major, Youngquist sports a cumulative 3.92 grade-point average (GPA). To be eligible for the ESPN Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale and be either a starter or a key reserve on his or her team.
FGCU is joined in District 3 by all schools from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
Youngquist excelled in both the classroom and on the field as FGCU’s libero. A 2010 A-Sun preseason All-Conference selection, Youngquist leads the team in service aces (14) and digs (324). Youngquist’s 4.32 digs per set rank fourth in the A-Sun.
The junior from Estero, Fla., played outside hitter for the first time in her collegiate career on October 29 at USC Upstate and finished the match with her first career double double by registering 10 kills and 10 digs. Youngquist also tied her career-high with 26 digs this season at Campbell on October 8.
Youngquist and the Eagles take the court again this weekend when they host defending A-Sun champs Lipscomb on Friday (Nov. 5) and take on Belmont on Saturday (Nov. 6). Both matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m. at Alico Arena.
