FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast volleyball team will host a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches this weekend as they welcome Lipscomb and Belmont to Alico Arena.
The Eagles (5-16 overall, 2-5 A-Sun) will face the defending A-Sun champion Lipscomb Bisons (18-6 overall, 7-0 A-Sun) at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by a Saturday night (7 p.m.) matchup with the Bruins of Belmont (11-13 overall, 5-2 A-Sun).
FGCU has nine players between 53 and 140 kills so far this season, led by seniors Chelsea Lyles (Colorado Springs, Col./Harrison HS/Western Nebraska CC) and Adrianne McNally (Howell, Mich./Pinckney HS), and sophomore Brittany Muse (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS). Junior Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian), who was recently named to the ESPN Academic All-District 3 second team, leads the Eagles with an impressive 4.32 digs per set, while freshman Camil Dominguez (Santo Domingo, D.R./Santa Teresita) is averaging 9.13 assists per set.

SCOUTING THE BISONS
With a 3-0 win over Jacksonville on October 30, Lipscomb clinched a berth in the Atlantic Sun Tournament. The victory over JU also kept the Bisons undefeated in conference this season (7-0) and extended their A-Sun winning streak to 27 games.
Alex Kelly leads Lipscomb with 338 kills per set and 62 total blocks. Kelly’s 4.22 kills per set lead the conference. Kaycee Green is second on the squad with 224 kills. Jake Pease runs the offense for the Bisons having recorded 917 assists this season.
Lipscomb holds a 5-2 lead in the series over the Eagles. The last time these two teams met in Fort Myers, Fla., FGCU fell to the top-seeded Bisons 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-21) in the championship game of the 2009 Atlantic Sun Volleyball Tournament.
SCOUTING THE BRUINS
Belmont is looking to extend their current three match winning streak after defeating North Florida 3-0 on Saturday night. The Bruins have won five of their last six matches, with their last loss coming on October 9 at ETSU (lost 3-2).
Heading into their Friday matchup with Stetson, Belmont is led by Kayla Albritton’s 335 kills (3.60 per set). Albritton has also racked up 64 total blocks and is hitting .296 on the season. Setter Hannah Miranda is averaging 10.43 assists per set (699 total assists), while on the defensive side, Megan Clements has racked up 282 digs.
FGCU holds a 5-1 lead in the series over Belmont. Last season in Alico Arena, Jelena Simic (Lazarevac, Serbia/ Kolubara Technical School/Seward County CC) finished with 16 kills and 10 digs and Jacqueline Cowden (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista HS/Temple) registered 11 kills as the Blue and Green won 3-2 (19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 24-26, 15-10) after battling the Bruins through five hard-fought sets for two hours and fifteen minutes.
