FORT MYERS, Fla. – Lipscomb University, which claimed the volleyball regular season championship by going undefeated in conference play, is the No. 1 seed in this week’s Atlantic Sun Conference Volleyball Tournament, conference officials announced.
The tournament will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at FGCU’s Alico Arena. Quarterfinals will be played on Thursday, Nov. 18, with the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 19. The championship match will be 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20.
Tickets are on sale now for the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference Volleyball Championship. Individual session tickets are just $8 and All-Tournament Passes are available for $20. Tournament passes would provide you with admission for all three days of competition, including the Championship match on Saturday afternoon. College students of each Atlantic Sun Conference member institutions are admitted free of charge by showing their college ID at the door. Every match during the tournament will have live stats and will be webstreamed (ASun.TV) and available to watch over the Internet for free.
No. 4 Belmont (13-14, 7-3 A-Sun) will face No. 5 Mercer (14-17, 6-4 A-Sun) in the first quarterfinal match at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The second quarterfinal match will pair No. 3 seed ETSU (24-8, 7-3 A-Sun) against sixth-seed UNF (7-21, 4-6 A-Sun) at 7:30 p.m.
The winner between Belmont and Mercer will face top-seeded Lispcomb (21-6, 10-0 A-Sun) on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in one semifinal. The other semifinal will have the winner between UNF and ETSU meeting No. 2 Kennesaw State (17-10, 9-1 A-Sun) at 7:30 p.m.
The championship match is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Lipscomb is the favorite after finishing with a perfect 10-0 conference record. The Bisons are 30-0 in Atlantic Sun play over the last two seasons.
The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship tournament.
