FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast volleyball team will host Jacksonville and North Florida this weekend to open Atlantic Sun Conference play.

The Eagles (5-7 overall) will face the Dolphins (7-8 overall) at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by a Saturday night (7 p.m.) matchup with the Ospreys (5-7 overall).

FGCU has five players between 50 and 136 kills so far this season, led by reigning A-Sun Player of the Week Jill Hopper’s (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) team-leading 136. Hopper, who has been named to three All-Tournament teams this season, has also tallied 17 service aces, 66 digs and 20 total blocks. Sophomore Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Marshall) and freshman Olivia Mesner (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River HS are second and third on the squad in kills with 112 and 93 kills, respectively. Senior Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS) leads the team with 145 digs (4.03/set). Freshman Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) has run the FGCU offense, with 324 total assists for an average of 8.10 assists per set.

SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS

Since posting a 4-1 mark the second week of the season, the Dolphins have lost four of their last six matches, including losing three consecutive.

Alliya Drzewiecki leads JU with 140 kills. Taylor Nyquist and Alison Loeppky have recorded 117 and 115 kills, respectively. Kendall Courtney leads the JU ofence wih 593 assists (10.05 assists/set).

In the last meeting between the two squads in Jacksonville on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, Brittany Muse (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS) racked up a career-high and game-high 23 kills and hit .317 as the Eagles dropped their 2010 A-Sun Conference opener to Jacksonville 3-2 (25-21, 24-26, 25-18, 23-25, 16-18) at Swisher Gymnasium.


SCOUTING THE OSPREYS
UNF, who has played seven consecutive road matches, will continue their road stretch with a trio of in-state matches this weekend.

Paige Pridgeon is coming off a strong week having earned all-tournament honors at the Hampton Inn Invitational in Charleston, S.C. Pridgeon posted double-double performances in all four of UNF's matches averaging 3.33 kills and 2.67 digs per set. For the season, she leads the team and ranks among the league leaders in kills at 2.98 per set.

Libero Nicole Baran averages a team-best 4.13 digs per set. Carolyn Jenkins heads the UNF frontline averaging nearly one block per set (0.93) and setter Casey Giovanazzi is dishing out 8.32 assists per set.

In the last meeting between FGCU and UNF on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, Chelsea Lyles and Adrianne McNally each registered 11 kills as the Eagles swept the Ospreys 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21). FGCU outhit UNF .274-.161 and used a match-high 62 digs to frustrate the Osprey offense.
