FORT MYERS, Fla. – After sweeping BIG EAST foe USF on Wednesday night, the FGCU volleyball squad will host a pair of A-Sun matches in ‘The Nest’ at Alico Arena on this weekend.
The Eagles (10-8 overall, 4-1 A-Sun) face the Spartans of USC Upstate on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. and will host the ETSU Lady Bucs on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
All fans are encouraged to wear PINK on Saturday night and help the Eagles support the fight against breast cancer when the Green and Blue hosts ETSU. FGCU Athletics will be selling pink themed t-shirts ($10) for fans to purchase at the event, with all proceeds going to the Side-Out Foundation. The t-shirts will read “Real Fans Wear Pink” on the back.
FGCU has four players with 100+ kills so far this season, led by freshman Jill Hopper’s (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) team-leading 217. Hopper, who has been named to three All-Tournament teams this season, ranks seventh in the conference and first among freshmen in kills. Sophomore Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Marshall) and freshman Olivia Mesner (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River HS are second and third on the squad in kills with 169 and 136 kills, respectively. Mesner also ranks sixth in the A-Sun in hitting percentage (.283). Freshman setter Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) has run the FGCU offense, with 521 total assists for an average of 8.27 assists per set.

ALL-TIME SERIES vs. USC UPSTATE
FGCU holds a 6-0 advantage in the all-time series against Upstate, including a 3-0 mark at home. Last time out, the Spartans fell to the Eagles 3-0 Oct. 29, 2010 in Spartanburg, S.C.
ALL-TIME SERIES vs. ETSU
The Eagles are 4-2 all-time against ETSU. The Lady Bucs defeated FGCU 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 27-25) on Oct. 30 in Johnson City, Tenn. last season.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Spartans, who have won three of their last five matches, come into Wednesday's contest after defeating Jacksonville 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 17-15) on Oct. 8.
Seniors Morgan Thomas and Kelsie Queen lead the Spartans with 174 and 116 kills, respectively. Junior Emily Sanders has dished out 439 assists, averaging 7.44 per set. Defensively, sophomore Morgan Page has a team-best 253 digs, followed by Sanders with 194. Thomas leads the defensive charge at the net with 41 total blocks on the season, while freshman Kayla McAvoy has tallied 37.
SCOUTING THE BUCS
ETSU is coming off a thrilling five-set victory against Wofford at home on Tuesday night, its second straight win after defeating North Florida on Saturday.
In the victory against Wofford on Tuesday night, ETSU senior Kiley Tamblyn recorded a career-high 31 digs – the most digs by an ETSU student-athlete since November 11, 2008.
Megan Devine continues to lead the Bucs in kills at 4.15 per set, which ranks her second in the Atlantic Sun. In addition, her 4.52 points per set also rank second in the league. Senior Jamie Stancliff remains the league leader in blocks at 1.21 per set. Stancliff needs just 47 more blocks to place 10th on the Atlantic Sun career blocks list. As a team, ETSU continues to lead the league in blocks at 2.20 per set.
