FORT MYERS, Fla. – After sweeping in-state foe FAU on Tuesday, the FGCU volleyball squad will host Mercer and Villanova this weekend at Alico Arena.

The Eagles (14-10, 7-3 A-Sun) face the Bears of Mercer (10-17, 3-7 A-Sun) on Friday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. and will take on BIG EAST foe Villanova (15-8, 7-4 BIG EAST) for ‘Senior Day’ on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m.

FGCU has four players with 120+ kills so far this season, led by freshman Jill Hopper’s (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) team-leading 287. Hopper, who has been named to three All-Tournament teams this season, ranks sixth in the conference and first among freshmen in kills. Sophomore Kaitlin Holm (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Marshall) and redshirt-senior Jelena Simic (Lazarevac, Serbia/Kolubara Technical/Seward County CC) are second and third on the squad in kills with 216 and 181 kills, respectively. Freshman setter Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) has run the FGCU offense, with 785 total assists for an average of 8.92 assists per set.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Mercer is coming off a tough 3-0 (20-25, 18-25, 21-25) loss against Jacksonville.

The Bears, who are 3-6 in road matches this season, have dropped four of the last five road contests. Mercer is led by Jennifer Katona’s team-high 233 kills. Robinson has also recorded 13 service aces, 59 digs and 85 blocks. Aimee Frutchey anchors the Bears defense with 288 digs.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Villanova is coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 (19-25, 22-25, 25-26, 25-28, 15-9) loss at Seton Hall and will face USF on Nov. 4 before facing the Eagles.

The Wildcats are 5-5 on the road and have lost five of their last eight matches. The trio of Morgan Petkovich, Maggie Mergen and Krista Andersen, who have each recorded 230+ kills this season, leads Villanova. Libero Kim Maroon, who has earned a spot on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll six times this season, anchors the Wildcat defense with 603 digs.
