FORT MYERS, Fla. – After securing the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament, the FGCU volleyball team (17-12, 10-3 A-Sun) landed three student-athletes on the All-Conference teams, announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Highlighting the postseason accolades, freshman Jill Hopper (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown HS) was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year. The Green and Blue landed two players on the All-Conference second team and All-Freshmen squad, and one student-athlete on the inaugural Academic All-Conference team.

In her first year on campus, Hopper has been a dominant force on the court, being named the top freshman in the league while picking up an All-Conference second team selection and a unanimous All-Freshmen nod. Hopper leads the team in points (434.0), kills (358) and service aces (46). The Muncie, Ind. native, who has recorded seven double-doubles this season, ranks fifth in the conference and first among A-Sun freshmen in kills.

Senior Holly Youngquist (Estero, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS) joined Hopper on the All-Conference second team. Youngquist, the 2011 A-Sun Preseason Libero of the Year and three-time A-Sun All-Academic honoree, is currently in fifth place in the A-Sun Conference record books with 1,620 career digs. The Estero, Fla. product, who earned second team honors in 2010, leads FGCU in digs (434; 4.13 per set), while ranking third in assists and fifth in service aces. Earning a 3.79 cumulative GPA in resort and hospitality management, the libero is the lone Eagle on the A-Sun’s first All-Academic team.

Freshman setter Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) joined Hopper on the league’s All-Freshmen team. Meyer, who ranks fifth on the team in digs (187), leads FGCU and sits fourth in the A-Sun in total assists (989). The Gainesville, Fla. native has recorded seven double-doubles and registered double digit assists in 27 of 29 matches, including a career-high 61 vs. ETSU (Oct. 15).

Making the program’s second-ever appearance, the Green and Blue will continue into the postseason as the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament No. 3 seed. FGCU plays No. 6 seed North Florida (14-16, 5-8 A-Sun) at 6 p.m. ET Thursday at Lipscomb’s Allen Arena. FGCU is 2-0 against North Florida this season.

The winner of the FGCU/UNF matchup will face No. 2 Lipscomb at 6 p.m. ET Friday night. The A-Sun final is Saturday at 4 p.m. ET at Allen Arena, with an automatic NCAA berth awaiting the champion.
