FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball coach Dave Nichols has announced that Christine Pinder (Gainesville, Fla./ Buchholz HS/College of Central Florida/Houston), formerly of the College of Central Florida, will join the Florida Gulf Coast volleyball program for the 2012 season.
“We are really excited about signing of Christine and cannot wait to showcase her skills as a FGCU Eagle,” said Nichols. “Not only is she a phenomenal volleyball player, but also an outstanding student. With her amazing ball control, great vertical and intelligent hitting, she is going to make an immediate impact on our program. We feel that she is the missing ingredient for a conference championship.”
Pinder, a 5-9 outside hitter who played her freshman year at Houston before transferring to the College of Central Florida, wrapped up her sophomore season with 453 kills, 440 digs, 40 total blocks, 27 aces and 25 assists for a Patriot squad that finished 43-9 overall.
A high school teammate of current Eagle Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) at Buchholz HS, Pinder was the 2010 Player of the Year, a two-time first team All-Area selection and a member of the 2008 Class 6A State Championship team.
Pinder joins fellow transfers Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Juniata) and Karina Mambuca (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS/Souheastern) and incoming freshman Maria Coukoulis (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles HS) as newcomers to the Eagle program for the 2012 campaign.
