FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU volleyball team heads to Laramie, Wyo. to participate in the Cowgirl Classic this weekend. Ten matches will be played, four of which will feature the Eagles. On Friday, FGCU (2-1 overall) will take on George Washington (0-3 overall) and UMKC (2-2 overall) at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.ET, respectively. On Saturday, the Green and Blue face Bethune-Cookman at 11 a.m. ET and wrap things up with host Wyoming (4-0 overall) at 3:30 p.m. ET

FGCU heads into Wyoming tournament after picking up a pair of wins (FAMU, FIU) and suffering the first loss of the season (No. 18 Florida) at the Florida Tournament last weekend. The Eagles have five players that have registered between 15 and 35 kills so far this season, led by junior Christine Pinder’s (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS/Houston/Central Florida CC) team-leading 31. Sophomore Whitney Masters (Muncie, Ind./Wapahani HS) leads the team with 35 digs (2.92/set). The setting duo of sophomore Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) and junior Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Juniata College) has run the FGCU offense, averaging 5.00 assists and 3.17 assists per set, respectively.

FGCU’s match vs. Wyoming will be broadcast live on the web for a minimal fee through WYO Vision and live stats will be available for all matches on WyomingAthletics.com.

GEORGE WASHINGTON NOTES
George Washington began the season 0-3 falling to No. 9 Purdue, No. 21 Northern Iowa and Pittsburgh. Leading the attack for the Colonials are Lauren Whyte and Kelsey Newman. Whyte has 27 kills on the season for a 2.70 kills per set average, while Newman has 25 for a 2.50 kills per set average. Setter Jessica Lubic runs the GW offense with 77 assists (7.70 per set). Defensively, GW is led by Maddy Doyle and Candace Silva-Martin who have 23 and 24 digs, respectively. Head coach Amanda Ault is in her second season at the helm of the Colonials' volleyball program.

UMKC NOTES
UMKC played four matches on Aug. 24-25 posting a 2-2 overall record. The Roos picked up victories over Lamar and Prairie View A&M, and dropped matches to North Texas and Houston Baptist. Leading the UMKC scoring through four games is Emily Lucas with 48 points on 42 kills and three total blocks. Lucas is averaging 4.67 kills per set and ranks second on the team with 35 digs. UMKC's setters Ella Meier and Nicole Wemhoff have 56 and 78 assists, respectively.

BETHUNE-COOKMAN NOTES
Bethune-Cookman is currently 0-3 on the season with losses to Charlotte, East Carolina and Campbell. Leading the Wildcats in attacks is Krysta Gardner who has 28 kills for an average of 2.80 per set. Running their offense is setter Aubrianna Curtis with 52 assists (5.78 per set). Two players lead defensively, Monica Lowe and Krysta Gardner each have registered 21 digs and are averaging 2.33 and 2.10 digs per set, respectively. The Wildcats are coached by third-year headman Issac Raphael.

WYOMING NOTES
The Cowgirls are coming off a perfect weekend (4-0) to open the season. Wyoming’s 4-0 start is their second 4-0 start under head coach Carrie Yerty and their second in the last three seasons. It is also their third 4-0 start since 2002. After one weekend of play Wyoming leads the Mountain West in two categories. UW leads the MW in blocks with 44 (3.14 per set), while also leading in service aces with 24 (1.71 per set). Individually, Reese Plante leads the MW in blocks with 26 total on two solos and 24 assisted (1.86 blocks per set). Leading the Cowgirls in points is senior Jodi Purdy who recorded 51 on 46 kills, six blocking assists and two aces. Plante leads Wyoming in hitting percentage at .412 on 29 kills, with eight errors on 51 total attacks. Junior setter Rachel Keyes leads the Cowgirl offense in assists with 88 (6.29 per set).
