FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women’s volleyball Head Coach Dave Nichols announced the signing of Lauren Tutwiler and Madeline Wilcox on Thursday. The duo will join the roster for the 2014-15 academic year.
"We are thrilled with our class of 2014,” explained Nichols. “Madi Wilcox is a dynamic skilled and intelligent setter who plays with tremendous energy and passion. Lauren is a really talented middle blocker who is a proven winner with club national championships and state championships as part of her resume. Both Lauren and Maddie play with a maturity beyond their years and will certainly make an immediate impact on Eagle volleyball."
As a four-year letter winner at Assumption High School, Tutwiler led the team to four-consecutive Kentucky State Titles. This season the 6’2” Louisville, Ky. native recorded 288 kills and 84 blocks en route to earning All-District honors for the second-consecutive year. She was also named All-State and to the state’s All-Tournament Team this season.
At the club level, Tutwiler is a member of a Kentucky-Indiana Volleyball Academy team. With KIVA, Tutwiler won the 2009 AAU National Championship, took third in the 2010 National Tournament and was the runner-up in 2012.
“I am blessed to have this opportunity to play at the next level at Florida Gulf Coast University,” said Tutwiler on signing day. “I’m excited and can’t wait to start this new chapter in my life.”
Wilcox, a 5’10” setter from Mundelein, Ill. will enroll at FGCU this spring.
At Mundelein High School Wilcox was a four-year varsity starter. She was an All-North Suburban Conference selection four-consecutive times and earned All-Area honors as a junior and senior.
Wilcox is also a member of the Northwestern Wildcat Juniors Volleyball Club where she has led the team to various top finishes. She was recently named the club’s Iron Cat Award recipient.
“I can’t wait to start my college career as an Eagle with such a great group of teammates and coaches,” Wilcox said.
The 2013 volleyball squad will conclude the regular season this weekend with road matches against Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb. The Atlantic Sun Tournament is slated for next weekend, Nov. 21-23.
